Walter H. Graczyk, 85, of the
Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Concord
Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept.
16, in the healthcare center. He was born on July 24, 1916, to
the late Francis and Agnes (Jaroszewski) Graczyk in New
Carlisle, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident. He was also
preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Walbert,
Josephine Szuba and Martha Kazmierczak; and by a
brother, Stanley Graczyk.
In March 1938 he married Stephanie Stajkowski
in South Bend. She died on Jan. 17, 1988. He is survived by
two sons, Gerald J. (Priscilla) Graczyk of Granger, Ind., and
Rev. Carl J. Graczyk, O.F.M., of Philadelphia, Pa.; four
grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Versyp, Rebecca Graczyk,
Douglas Graczyk and Thomas Graczyk; three great-grandchildren,
Scott Versyp, Benjamin Versyp and Andrea Clark; and by a sister,
Helen Ciszewski of South Bend.
Mr. Graczyk retired in 1978 from the former
Bendix Corporation after 32 years of service. He was a member of
St. Casimir Parish, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #9820, American
Legion Post #284, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in St. Casimir Catholic Church, with
Rev. Carl J. Graczyk, O.F.M., officiating. Burial will follow at
St. Joseph Valley M emorial P ark, Granger. Friends may call from
4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545
N. Bendix Drive, South Bend.
