John K. Gore

CASSOPOLIS - John K. Gore, 79, died Sunday at his home surrounded by his family following an illness. John was born October 30, 1930 in Clearwater, Florida the son of Jean (Stamp) and John C. Gore. In 1943 the family moved to Cassopolis. John graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1948 and went to earn both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Michigan State University. Following over 30 years of service, he retired from Bendix Corporation in 1983. He then began a second career in public service for Cass County, which he loved. John served on many community boards and committees, working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for all in the county. He also worked in the rental home business. In 2008, John retired from the post of Penn Township Supervisor having served 22 years. On August 13, 1950 he married Marilyn Squires, his high school sweetheart who survives along with their children, Janeen (Robert) Godfrey of Carmel, Indiana, Jill (Thomas) Vihtelic of Cassopolis, and John S. Gore of Cassopolis. Six -grandchildren also survive, of whom John was very proud: Dr. David (Stacie) Godfrey of Williamsville, New York, Jenna Godfrey of Durham, North Carolina, Andrew Vihtelic of Grand Rapids, Patrick (Sarah) Vihtelic of San Francisco, California, John Daniel Gore of Grand Rapids and Molly Gore of Cassopolis and East Lansing. His brother, Charles W. (Alice) Gore of Orlando, Florida and his brother-in-law, Gordon (Nathene) Squires of Elkhart, Indiana also survive. A brother, Curtis E. Gore, preceded him in death. Connelly Funeral Home handled arrangements. A private interment will occur at a later date. The Gore family is grateful to Southwestern Michigan Hospice for the wonderful care and friendship given at this difficult time.
