Lewis "Max" Goff, 93, of
South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Lawton,
Mich., passed away after an illness at 8:50 a.m. on Saturday,
Nov. 1, in St. Paul's Retirement Community Health Care Center,
South Bend. Max was born on Dec. 15, 1909, in East Chicago, Ind.,
as the son of the late John B. and Edna B. (Lehman) Goff.
Mr. Goff was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Julia
Kay La Monte.
On June 24, 1934, in South Bend, he married
the former Mary Jane Romine, who survives. He is also
survived by three daughters, Mary Ann (John) La Monte of
Waterford, Mich., Jane (Jim) Cerney of South Bend and
Elaine (Alan) Hutchcroft of Rockford, Ill.; one son,
Richard (Charlotte) Goff of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren,
Laura La Monte-Harris (Donn) of Waterford, Daniel Goff La
Monte of Pontiac, Mich., Jennifer Lynn (Paul) St. Louis of
High Point, N.C., Jim (Shari) Cerney of Mishawaka, Ind., Janice
(Bob) Stevens of Granger, Ind., Jeff (Shari) Cerney of
Osceola, Ind., Rhonda Cerney of Mishawaka, Eric (Tricia) Hutchcroft
of Maple Park, Ill., Sara Hutchcroft of Macomb, Ill., Lisa
(Shad) Averhoff of Kenosha, Wis., and Traci (Bryon) Alexander
of Albuquerque; 18 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Mary
Medvecz-Tarr and Helen Medvecz-Neitzel, both of
Hobart, Ind.
Mr. Goff founded Goff Heating & Air
Conditioning in South Bend in 1937, which he owned and operated
for 38 years until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of
Marcellus United Methodist Church of Marcellus, Mich.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 3, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St.,
Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
Nov. 4, in Coalbush United Methodist Church, 15977 Jackson Road,
Mishawaka, with Rev. Jim Davidson officiating, where friends may
call one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at
Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
The family request that, in lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Max be made to the Cystic Fibrosis
Council, P.O. Box 475, Elkhart, IN 46515; or to Hospice of St.
Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
