GOFF
Several services are
planned Saturday for James W. Goff, 62, of 12594 State Road 23,
Granger, who died Wednesday night in his home of an apparent
heart attack. A prayer service will be conducted at
10 a.m. Saturday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, followed
by graveside service at South Lawn Cemetery, South Bend, by the
South Bend Elks Lodge. A memorial mass is planned for
11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Pius X Catholic church,
Granger. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today in the
funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
today.

JAMES W. GOFF,
EX-HARRIS TWP. FIRE CHIEF, DIES
James W. Goff, 62,
owner of Goff Insurance Agency and the first chief of the Harris
Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, died about 8 p.m. Wednesday in
his residence at 12594 Ind. 23, Granger, after a sudden illness.
He was born in Frankfort,
Ind. on Aug 7, 1918, and moved to Mishawaka in 1931.
In addition to establishing the insurance agency 10 years ago, he
operated the city's Westen Union telegraph office. He
was one of the founders and the first chief of the Harris Fire
Department when it was organized in 1954, serving for six years
in the post. In 1938, in Mishawaka, he married
Germaine T. Richard, who survives.
Also surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Emery (Geraldine) Papp of South Bend, and Lt.
Comdr. Vicki K. Goff, stationed with the Navy in San Diego; two
sons, James R. Goff of Seminola, Okla., and Douglas R. Goff of
Columbus, Ohio, nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Martha Popejoy
of Delphi, Ind., and a brother, Robert G. Goff of Long Island
City, N. Y. Goff was past exalted ruler of the South
Bend Elks Lodge. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m.
Friday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home.
