Peter C. Goethals, 81, passed away peacefully at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, in his home, after an extended illness.
Pete was born on Nov. 25, 1914, in Coal Valley, Ill., to Prudence (DeCraene) and Alphonse Goethals. At the age of three, he moved to Mishawaka with his family, and had lived there ever since.
On Oct. 26, 1940, he married June DeVleeschower. She survives along with two sons, Norman of Muncie, Ind. and Kenny of Bremen, Ind.; two grandchildren, Courtney of Muncie and Haley of Bremen; and a sister, Irene Rodts of Mishawaka.
Two sisters, Genevieve Michels and Clara Cox, preceded him in death.
Pete retired in 1975 from the Mishawaka Bendix plant after 35 years of service to the Bendix Corporation. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 9. He was also a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church.
He especially loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., today, at the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., today, in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association- Northern Indiana Chapter, Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to St. Bavo's Parish.
