SOUTH BEND - Mildred P. Goethals, 68, was born in South Bend, Ind., in 1929. She died on Monday, May 11, of brain cancer.

She had lived in the Mishawaka and South Bend area for more than 50 years, and was co-founder and co-operator of the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home in Mishawaka from 1955 through 1972.

Mrs. Goethals was also known for her involvement in numerous charitable organizations in the Michiana area.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Grady, and son-in-law, Steve Grady of LaJolla, Calif.; a son, Richard Goethals of LaJolla, Calif.; a son Mark and daughter-in-law Patricia, and grandson, Frederick Goethals of LaCosta, Calif.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, in Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Chapel. (nf)

Editor: Her maiden name was Mildred Peterson and on May 6, 1950 she married Charles Joseph “Hovey” Goethals. He died 3-15-1989.
