Raymond A. Goepfrich (Nov. 20, 1918 -- May
16, 2007)
SOUTH BEND -- Raymond A. Goepfrich,
88, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
Raymond was born on November 20, 1918, in South
Bend, to the late Frank and Louise (Beck) Goepfrich, and was a
lifelong area resident.
On September 2, 1944, he married Mary T. Steinhofer,
who survives. Along with his wife of 62 years, he is survived by
his daughters, Patricia (John) Cocquyt of Mishawaka, IN,
and Mary (Ted) Mobley of South Bend; his son, Raymond
(Sara) Goepfrich of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Tracy (John)
Cocquyt-McKernan of Roswell, GA, Jeff Cocquyt of
Mishawaka, Andrea Goepfrich of Madagascar and Raymond Goepfrich
of South Bend; a sister, Veronica Strasser of Bend, OR;
and by a sister-in-law, Margaret Goepfrich of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Edmund, Francis and Leo Goepfrich.
Mr. Goepfrich worked for Singers
Manufacturing, Bendix, Drewerys Brewery and then I.U.S.B. for
many years before retiring. He was a United States Army veteran
of W.W.II, and a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church where
he served as an usher for over 50 years. Ray operated Ray's Saw
Sharpening Service out of his home for many years. He enjoyed
riding on trains, loved animals (especially dogs), and was a
voracious reader.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today, May
17, 2007, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South
Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4 PM. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 18,
2007, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland
Cemetery, South Bend.
