George John Gleissner

July 28, 1877 – Aug. 7, 1942

Mishawaka - George J. Gleissner, aged 65, of 213 North Indiana Avenue, a resident of Mishawaka for 33 years, died at 11 a.m. Friday in his home. He had been in ill health for the last six months.

 

Mr. Gleissner was born July 28, 1877, in Milwaukee, Wis., and came here from that city.

 

He married Miss Elizabeth Lyman, May 10, 1902 in St. Louis, Mo.

 

He had been employed in the St. Joseph County treasurer’s office both in South Bend and in the branch office in Mishawaka for several years.

 

Surviving are his wife; five sons, George Jr. of Plymouth, Ind., Fred J. of South Bend, Eugene of Fort Knox, Ky., and Thomas and John, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Allison Lindahl, of South Bend, and Elizabeth, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Oscar Meltz and Mrs. Emil Backus, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Arthur Bennett, of Peewawkee, Wis.; two brothers, Joseph Gleissner of Mishawaka, and John Gleissner of Milwaukee, and five grandchildren.

 

Friends may call at Hollis Chapel, South Bend, until noon Sunday when the body will be taken to the residence, where friends may call until the hour of the funeral services, which will take place at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Rev. George Lauer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Gleissner was a member of the Woodmen of the World at St. Louis and of Mishawaka council No. 1878, Knights of Columbus. 

 

Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at the clubroom at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and will go to the Gleissner residence in a body. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday in the residence.
