SOUTH BEND - On Monday, February 22, 2010, at 12:55 a.m. Mrs.
Lucille (Causey) Gladney was called home at the age of 72 at
Sanctuary at St. Joseph, South Bend, Indiana. Lucille's life
began in Tyler Town, Mississippi, when she was born to the union
of LeMar and Chinese (Burnett) Causey on April 3, 1937. The
family moved to Elkhart, Indiana, where Lucille graduated from
Elkhart High School. She furthered her education at Saints Jr.
College in Lexington, Mississippi, and Ivy Tech State College in
South Bend. Lucille was employed as a certified nursing assistant
for Elkhart General Hospital. She was an excellent cook and a
wonderful seamstress. Lucille and Herbert Gladney were united in
marriage on December 15, 1973, in Elkhart. He preceded her in
death in 1993. Her current church membership was the Greater Holy
Temple Church of God in Christ where she served on the Mothers
Board under the leadership of Superintendent Leroy Sutton; also,
Mother Gladney was a former member of Guiding Light COGIC, Elder
Clinton Mack, pastor, serving as a Sunday school teacher; and
also Wayside COGIC as the church secretary and Purity leader
under Pastor Weldon Lockhart. Mother Gladney is survived by one
son, James LeMar Gladney of South Bend; stepson, Conrad Bonds;
one grandson, Jalen Gladney; and one sister, Ruth (Elder)
Clinton) Mack, all of South Bend; along with a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. Loved ones preceding her in
death include her parents, LeMar and Chinese Causey; her husband,
Herbert Gladney; a son, David Gladney; sisters, Ollie Taylor and
Mary Causey; and brothers, Gaven Causey and Elmo Causey. The
homegoing celebration for Mother Gladney will be held on
Saturday, February 27, 2010, at noon in Greater Holy Temple
COGIC, South Bend, with Superintendent Leroy Sutton officiating.
Friends may call in the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will follow on Monday at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka,
Indiana, at 2 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's
Mortuary where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to
