William Gilreath

William Gilreath, 77, of South Bend,
Ind., passed away at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in St. Joseph
Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Gilreath owned and
operated C&G Discount for many years and recently worked
part-time at Big R Supplies in Elkhart, Ind. He was born on Feb.
6, 1927, in Carrollton, Mo., to the late William and Elva (Nutter)
Gilreath.
On June 27, 1951, in South Bend, he married
Virginia "Ginny" Anderson who survives. Along
with his loving wife, Ginny Gilreath, of South Bend, he is also
survived by two daughters, Laurie (Tim) Robertson of South
Bend and Suzan (Eric) Strantz of Mishawaka, Ind.; five
grandchildren, Jason Robertson, Jeremy Robertson, Jennifer
Robertson, Christopher Strantz and Kasee Strantz; and three
brothers, Rev. Edward Proffitt of Springfield, Mo., Larry
Proffitt of Sparta, Mo., and Hubert Proffitt of Shell Knob, Mo.
One sister, Juanita Lawter, preceded him in death. Mr.
Gilreath graduated from Carrollton High School, Carrollton, Mo.,
in 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II
and was a member of American Legion Post #303.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 27, in College Park Missionary Church, 2014 Liberty
Drive, Mishawaka, Ind. Pastor Jim Bayer will officiate. Military
graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial
Gardens, Osceola, Ind. The family will receive friends from 2:00
to 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528
Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services
Monday in the church. Contributions in memory of William Gilreath
may be made to River Park Business Association Scholarship Fund,
3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46614.
