Charles James "Pete" Gill

MISHAWAKA - Charles James "Pete" Gill, 75, of Mishawaka, peacefully passed away Friday morning with his wife, Alice, and Pastor, Randy Smith, at his side. Born to Paul and Esther Gill, also of Mishawaka, he was the youngest of four children. Pete contracted Polio at a very young age, but overcame the numerous physical challenges. A graduate of Mishawaka High School, Pete moved to Virginia for work and later relocated to Florida, working for Disney with his sister, Betty (Bob) Leach, who preceded him in death. Pete moved back to Mishawaka, eventually meeting the love of his life, Alice Sherk of Ontario, Canada. Pete and Alice were married in 1976. Pete is survived by his wife, Alice, and two daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Brand and Rhonda (Mike) Williams. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Robert (Lorraine) Gill and Dorothy (James) Morris. Pete was an active member of Faith Community Church, Elkhart, where he served in a variety of roles including running the sound system. He worked as a Draftsman for most of his life. Pete was very handy and received great pleasure when working on cars and fixing up the house as well as gardening. Funeral services for Pete will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday at Faith Community Church, Elkhart, with Dr. Randal Smith officiating. Friends will be received from 3 until 7:00 pm on Monday at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, and also one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church. The family would like memorial contributions to be made to Faith Community Church.
