Sister M. Francis Joseph Gibbons

SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Francis Joseph Gibbons, CSC, 94, of Holy Cross Convent, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the convent.

She was born Oct. 16, 1900, in Burke, Idaho, as Mary Gerldine Gibbons. She entered the Order of Sisters of Holy Cross on Aug. 1, 1918, and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1921. She was an elementary and high school music teacher in Texas, Iowa, Virginia, California, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Nevada. She was assigned to St. Catherine's Retirement Home, Ventura, Calif., in 1973, St. Mary's Convent in 1978 and Holy Cross Convent in 1994. Surviving are a sister, Ann Gibbons Burrell of Needham, Maine; and a brother, Anthony M. Gibbons of San Francisco.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's College. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Loretto, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
