Richard A. Geyer (Oct. 23, 1926 -- May 3, 2005).
Richard A. Geyer, 78, of South Bend, passed away at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation
Center.
He was born Oct. 23, 1926 in South Bend, as the son of Robert
Edward & Harriet (Balzer) Geyer, and has remained a lifelong
resident.
On Nov. 8, 1947, in South Bend, he married Theresa
"Sue" Grundtner. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25,
1988. He was also preceded in death by a brother Robert Geyer.
Then, in February 1992, he married Patricia A. "Patti"
Gantert. He is survived by his loving wife Patti, along with two
daughters, Patricia (Wayne) Bennett of Mishawaka; and Barbara
(Dennis) VanHolsbeke of South Bend; two step daughters, Janis
(Rick) Marvel and Julie (Bob) Gantert both of South Bend. Also
surviving Richard is his brother James Geyer of Fort Wayne, Ind.;
three grandchildren, Ryan VanHolsbeke and Nick VanHolsbeke both
of South Bend; Sara (Neil) Hoover of Mishawaka; four step
grandchildren, Ryan (Tonya) Heyde of Mishawaka; Michael (Nicole)
Gantert of South Bend; and Kody and Dylan Marvel both of South
Bend; one great-grandson, Gavin Hoover, and a step
great-granddaughter, Alyssa Gantert.
In addition, Mr. Geyer is survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen
Geyer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Karen Phillips of South Bend; and two
brothers-in-law, Michael Clayton of South Bend and Robert Clayton
of Niles, Mich.; one niece and several nephews.
He retired as Vice-President of Purchasing from the Mastic Corp.,
South Bend where he was employed for 45 years. He loved to play
golf with his friends at Erskine Golf Course.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in Palmer
Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South
Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Graveside services and
burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 2 to 4 and 6 8 p.m. Monday in the Palmer Funeral
Home-Guisinger Chapel.
