MISHAWAKA - Eugene "Geno" Gevaert, 82, lost his
long battle with pain and suffering and entered into eternal rest
on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center, Mishawaka. He was born September 5th, 1925, in Mishawaka,
to Alfonse and Esther (Libey) Gevaert, who preceded him in
death.
On January 18th, 1948, he married the former
Betty Fay Whitfield, who survives with five children,
Becky (Mark) Steenbeke, Thomas (Suzy) Gevaert, Randy
Gevaert, Daniel Gevaert and Lisa Gevaert; his grandchildren,
Christy (Andy) Tolch, Tricia (Coby) Deal, Molly
Gevaert, Maggie Gevaert and Sarah Gevaert; great grandchildren,
Seth Tolch, Shaye Tolch and Cameron Deal. He was preceded in
death by a grandson, Brandon Gevaert. Mr. Gevaert was employed by
Elkhart Wood Products and retired from Crown Audio in Elkhart in
1994. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, camping, bowling, but more
than anything, he loved his family. He was tender-hearted, kind
and loving, and managed to smile and laugh through all his pain.
He was greatly loved by all who knew him. The family would also
like to thank the staff at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center
who cared for him in his many times of need.
A celebration of his life will be held at
the Arbors and Ironwood clubhouse, 1310 Blossom Drive (the corner
of Ironwood and Dragoon Trail), on Friday, from 6:30 p.m. until
8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made
to the Gevaert family.
