SOUTH BEND - Max R. Gentner, 88, passed away peacefully in
his home surrounded by his three loving daughters at 9:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, April, 23, 2008. Max was born January 3, 1920, to
Herman and Dora Gentner.
He married Milly Cooperman, his
childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, on March 30, 1941.
They were happily married for 63 years. Milly preceded him in
death on February 18, 2004. He is survived by his daughters,
Barbara (John) Stephenson, Lennie Gentner and Susan
(Richard) Rosenstein; two grandchildren, Marina and Chad Molenda.
Max and his three brothers owned and operated Gentner Meat
Packing Company, a company started by their father. It was a
national, wholesale beef company that was the largest meat
packing plant east of the Mississippi. The Gentner brothers sold
the company to Beatrice Foods in 1982. After the company was
sold, Max and his brother Midge operated a cattle feeding and
trading business until 2003. Max loved gardening and playing
golf. He had a strong interest in the financial world and was an
avid reader of many financial books and publications. His
greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was the
guiding light and hero to his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Sinai
Synagogue, 1102 East LaSalle Avenue, South Bend, IN, on Friday,
April 25, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send
donations to Sinai Synagogue or to The Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care, South Bend, IN. McGann Hay Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
