Elsie H. Geier, 86, of Locust Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in her residence. She was born on Feb. 13, 1916, in Wilhelmshafen, Germany, to the late Amalie (Pfuender) and Richard Hinke.
On April 19, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wis., as Elsie Hinke, she married Gordon E. Geier, who survives. Mrs. Geier is also survived by two sons, Richard L. Geier of South Bend and David R. Geier of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Russell, Timothy and Kira Geier; two great-grandchildren, Jared and Ryan Geier; and by a sister, Ida Winters of Germantown, Wis.
Mrs. Geier was a bank bookkeeper for the Marshall, Illsey Bank in Milwaukee. She was a graduate of Riverside High School in Milwaukee where she graduated with honors. This was quite an accomplishment for someone who had immigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old and did not speak English. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, South Bend.
Mrs. Geier was a devout and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be sadly missed by all.
Memorial services for Mrs. Geier will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1021 Manchester Drive, South Bend. Rev. Kenneth Peterson, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place in Michiana Crematory, South Bend, with burial at a later date at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Milwaukee. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1021 Manchester Drive, South Bend, IN 46615.
