SOUTH BEND - Edna M. GassensmitSh, 76, of Healthwin Hospital, died there at 11:45 p.m. Thursday. She retired in 1975 after 25 years of employment with City of South Bend. Born July 11, 1908, in Fulton, NY, she lived in South Bend most of her life.

On June 12, 1930, in South Bend, as Edna McCarthy, she married Norbert W. Gassensmith. He died Jan. 2, 1969. Surviving are two daughters, Cecila Florowski of South Bend and Mary Jo Wilhelm of Hamilton, Ohio; two sons, Norbert J. and E. Patrick Gassensmith, both of South Bend; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; and two sisters, Gladys Mokate of Bradenton, Fla., and Aleatha Woods of Sebring, Fla.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be iin St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today in the Hickey Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. She was a member of the church and Harvest House.
