Virginia Irene Gasaway, 81, of South
Bend, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 3, following an illness
at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born Nov. 25, 1922, in
Mishawaka, Ind., to the late George and Ruth (Dukesherer) Stoeckinger.
On Feb. 10, 1951, in Mishawaka, she married
Paul Gasaway, who died in 1977. Besides her parents and husband,
she was preceded by her sister, Ethel, and brothers, Charles and
William. She is survived by her sister, Thelma Rogers of
Mishawaka, and many good and loving friends.
Virginia retired from the South Bend Police
Department in 1986 as a records clerk, and prior she worked as a
clerk with the Associates Investments Company from 1958 to 1976.
She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1944, and loved
traveling and her K-9 companion, "Missie." She served
as president of the South Bend Garden Club and was on the board
of directors of the Triple-A Credit Union.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday,
March 5, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with
Rev. Sergio Pereira, pastor of Epworth Memorial United Methodist
Church, officiating.
Virginia was a longtime member of Epworth
and belonged to the Esther Circle of the church. There were no
strangers in her life, and she will be missed. Friends may call
in the funeral home today from 4 to 6 p.m. and two hours prior to
the funeral on Friday. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery,
Mishawaka. Memorials may be made to Camp Millhouse, 5600 Kelly
