Lucille A. Garrett, 93, of Greencroft Retirement Community, Goshen, Ind., died at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in the nursing center of the community. She had been a resident of Greencroft Retirement Community for the last six years. She was born on May 21, 1909, in Rockford, Ohio, to Willshire and Mabel (Brechtel) Carpenter. On Sept. 18, 1928, in Benton Harbor, Mich., she married Joseph E. Garrett. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1984. Also in 1983 she was preceded in death by her grandson, Dennis Birdsell.

Lucille was the owner and operator of Riverside Restaurant in South Bend until retiring in 1963. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Niles, Mich. In 1979 she was honored in Indianapolis as senior citizen of the year of Niles. Lucille was cited for her work at the Senior Citizen Club of Brandywine. Also in 1979 she received her High School Diploma at Brandywine High School after completing the curriculum of the 1979 Graduating Class.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Richard Arnold of Goshen, Ind., and by her son and daughter-in-law, Wilbur Bill and Dorothy Allen of Holt, Mich. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Linda Bennett, Deanna Self and Joseph Arnold; by five great-grandchildren, David Bennett, Aaron Bennett, Justin Bennett, Richard Hock, and Brent Birdsell; and by three great-great-grandchildren, Rachel Hock, Connor Bennett and Vincent Bennett.

Funeral services for Lucille will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, with Chaplain Margaret Sawatsky of Greencroft Retirement Community, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
