SOUTH BEND - Blanche Garrett, 88, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:48 AM Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in her home. She was born on October 14, 1921, in Waterloo, AL, to Donald and Tishia (White) Higgins, and had lived in South Bend since 1940, coming from Waterloo. On May 2, 1942, in South Bend, IN, Blanche married Robert Garrett, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1998. Mrs. Garrett is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Maggie Garrett of South Bend; six grandchildren, Sue Rice, Deanna (Eric) Zukowski, Bob Garrett, Tony (Brenda) Garrett, Chris (Amy) Garrett and Pat Garrett; 12 great-grandchildren, John, Lauren, Katie, Sarah, Liz, Zach, Tori, Ryder, Nick, Brandon, Olivia and Caeden; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Claeys of South Bend and Mary Nell Dvonar of Mishawaka; her brother, Joe Higgins of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Sandra Rice, preceded her in death on July 4, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, April 9, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Greg Crump will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM Friday until time of services in the funeral home.
