Gardini

SOUTH BEND - Mary Gardini, 86, died on Saturday, May 8, 2010, in
the Saint Joseph Regional Med Center at 2:15 p.m. Mary was born
on May 25, 1923, to the late Emily (Price) Medich and Andrew
Medich in South Bend, Indiana. She married Fred A. Gardini on
June 20, 1942, who preceded her in death on July 29, 1997. Also
preceding her in death were two sons, Joey J. Gardini and Silvio
A. Gardini; two sisters, Dorothy Medich and Angela Medich; and
brothers, Walt Medich, Robert Medich and Steve Medich. She is
survived by a daughter, (Maria) Lana (Jim) Jaroszewski; sons,
Reginaldo J. (Laura) Gardini, Frederick W. Gardini and Dino A.
Gardini, all of South Bend. Surviving siblings are sisters, Della
Stevanovic of South Bend, Vera Vranic of Griffith, IN, and Betsy
Corthier of South Bend; and brothers, Dan Medich and Val Medich,
also of South Bend; Mary has eight grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary
was an avid golfer and played in the South Bend City Tourney for
25 years straight. She was a good bowler and bowled Friday nights
at Regal Lanes for many years. She loved to dance and was very
good. She also was a crossword puzzle aficionado and was doing a
word-find puzzle the day before she passed. She worked at the
polls for many years. She was employed at "Ball Band"
where she met her loving husband, Fred. She always said that she
was lucky to marry such a great guy. She was a member of Sts.
Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church and also the Circle of
Serbian Sisters. She sang in the Aleksa Shantich Choir and worked
many hours for the various hall functions. Mom was very proud of
her Serbian heritage and religion and spoke the language
fluently. She loved her Serbian music and doing their dances. We
will miss her lovely eyes and her beautiful smile. Funeral
services will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox
Church on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at noon, with burial to follow
at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, where she will be laid to rest
next to Fred, her hubby of 55 years. Officiating will be Fr. Sasa
Nedic of Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church.
Visitation will be held in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S.
Kemble Avenue, on Wednesday, May 12, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. with
a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call one hour
prior to services on Thursday in the church. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul
