SOUTH BEND - Patrick M. Gallivan, 75, of South Bend, passed away
Thursday morning, May 20th, in Memorial Hospital from the
insidious disease called cancer. Patrick was born from the union
of Frederick T. Gallivan and Julia Mary Bolka in South Bend.
Patrick was raised by his mother and stepfather, Laurence E.
Hewett, after his father passed away. All are now deceased.
Patrick was preceded in death by two brothers, Lance J. Hewett
and Daniel J. Gallivan. He is survived by his favorite sister,
Marcia A. Hill of Rock Island, IL; brothers, Timothy D. (Joan R.)
Gallivan Sr. of South Bend and Lawrence L. Hewett of Honolulu,
Hawaii. Patrick was a 1954 graduate of South Bend Central High
School. He retired after 31 years service to the City of South
Bend in the Parks Department and Water Works. Patrick was an avid
sports fan, following Notre Dame, Chicago Bears and the
Indianapolis Colts. The family wishes to thank the Milton Home of
South Bend plus the medical staff on the 8th and 10th floors of
Memorial Hospital and Pat's personal physician, Steven Crowell,
M.D., for the excellent care given Patrick during this trying
rime. Patrick's wishes are being honored as to no viewing,
cremation, and a private service at the family plot at Highland
Cemetery. Donations in Patrick's name may be made to the Center
for Hospice and Palliative Care and to Pet Refuge or to St.
Joseph Catholic Church. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted
the family with arrangements. E-mail condolences may be sent to www.welsheimer.com.
What follows is a prayer that was Patrick's favorite: A
Prayer to our Blessed Mother Take My Hand, O Blessed Mother Hold
me firmly when I Fall I am nervous when I'm walking And on thee I
humbly call. Guide me over every crossing Watch me when I'm on
the stairs Let me know you are beside me Listen to my fervent
prayers. Bring me to my destination Safely every single day Help
me with my undertaking As the hours pass away. And when evening
falls upon me And I fear to be alone Take my hand O Blessed
Mother Once again and lead me Home.
