James H. Gaddey

SOUTH BEND - James H. Gaddey, 79, passed away at 2:45 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 18, in his residence. He was born on June 28, 1928,
to the late LeRoy and Ruth N. (Wells) Gaddey in Decatur,
IL, and lived in South Bend most of his life. Along with his
parents; one daughter, Joni Banda-Torrez of Colorado
Springs, CO also preceded him in death. Mr. Gaddey retired in
1993, after 45 years, from the Bendix Corporation, where he
served as a Union Representative for the U.A.W. Local No. 9. On
August 12, 1960, he married Shirlene R. Wiesner
in South Bend. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirlene, of 47
years; three daughters, Emma Rebecca (husband, Jeff) McLaughlin
of Bremen, Karen Gaddey of Crossville, TN and Jamie (husband,
Keith) Burks of Osceola; four sons, Billy Wayne Gaddey of
South Bend, Leonard Werner of Miami, FL, George Werner of
Cassopolis and Brian J. (wife, Sandy) Gaddey of South Bend; 13
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William L.
(Mildred) Gaddey of Hayward, WI. James attended New Carlisle High
School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a
member of the American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle, IN; and
enjoyed fishing, gardening, and painting. He will leave behind
several good friends and family who will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today,
Jan. 21, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South
Bend. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22,
in Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Bro. Chuck Wotring officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery, New Carlisle, IN, where
Military Services will be conducted by American Legion Post #297.
