Mrs. Edith "Dickie" Frucci, 83, of 4616 Sample Street, South Bend, Ind., died of a brief illness at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, in Saint Paul's Health Care Center, South Bend. Born on Oct. 21, 1916, in Diveron, Ill., to Norman R. and Effie (Norman) Edwards, Mrs. Frucci was a lifetime area resident, having moved to South Bend in 1996 from Niles, Mich. She retired as the owner of the Spin-it Record Shop (Niles), which she and her husband operated from 1957-1971. One of her former employees, Tommie James, has achieved international acclaim as a recording artist.

In 1935 Mrs. Frucci graduated from County Normal (college), and from 1935 to 1937 taught school in Sumnerville, Mich. Additionally, she was a former member of the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce. Assisting the Boy Scouts of America and their local Indian pageant's musical production at Camp Madron, Mrs. Frucci was awarded its highest honor. She was one of few ladies to be so honored.

On June 6, 1936, in South Bend, she married Bruno Frucci, who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Sylvia A. Farkas of South Bend; and a son, Norman Frucci of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Marjorie Barber of Niles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with Rev. Emmett H. Kadwell of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. (Mich. time) Tuesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
