Bruno Peter Frucci, 87, of South Ironwood Road, South Bend, Ind., and formerly of Dulin Lane, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 6:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Saint Paul's Health Care Center, South Bend. He was born April 21, 1914, at Crystal Falls, Mich., to Rosario and Annita (VanNozzi) Frucci, and moved from Niles to South Bend in 1996.
Mr. Frucci retired in 1974 after 31 years of employment with the Clark Equipment Company.
Bruno was a key member both as a player and manager of the Niles Fast Pitch Softball League at Plym Park in Niles. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #449 in Buchanan, Mich., and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.
On June 6, 1936, in South Bend, he married the former Edith "Dickie" Edwards, who died Sept. 1, 2000. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Dominick, Frank and Tony Frucci; and by three sisters, Frances Kenezivich, Veronica Marrindino and Theresa Olinger.
He is survived by his children, Sylvia A. Farkas of South Bend and Norman Frucci of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; four grandsons, two granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren; and by two brothers, John B. Frucci of Niles and Victor Frucci of Florida.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Reverend Emmett H. Kadwell Jr. of Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles, officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Bruno Peter Frucci may be made to the Saint Paul's Retirement Community Activity Department.
