Louis Gordon Frith, M.D.

April 21, 1901 - Aug. 31, 1996

Dr. Louis G. Frith, 95, formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away Saturday, at 10:45 p.m., in the Warren Barr Pavillion, Chicago, Ill., after an illness.

Dr. Frith was born on April 21, 1901, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Allen and Florence Frith. He moved to South Bend from Indianapolis, in 1928, to practice medicine, which he continued until his retirement in 1971.

On March 12, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., he married Gladys M. Dykes, who preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by a daughter, Alice Joiner of San Felipe, Baja, Mexico; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Bell Owen and a brother, Robert C. Frith.

Dr. Frith was active in many civic and fraternal organizations, and his church, Westminster Presbyterian, where he served as an elder. He was a member of South Bend Lodge 294 F&AM; Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend; South Bend Shrine Club; Orak Temple; Knights Templar; Sons of the American Revolution; Audubon Society; Northern Indiana Artist Association; and State and National Medical Societies. He also served on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., in the Chapel at St. Paul's Retirement Community, where he resided for ten years. Friends will be received, following the services. Memorial contributions may be given in Dr. Frith's memory to Meals on Wheels in South Bend. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
