Helen M. Freeze

MISHAWAKA - Helen M. Freeze, 93, formerly of the 500 Center High Rise, died at 10:53 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, Ind. She was born in Mishawaka on Feb. 20, 1904, and had lived here all her life.Helen had been a cook at Mishawaka High School. She retired in 1967 from the Bendix Corporation. She was a homemaker who loved to crochet and play cards, besides being an avid reader and a great cook. She was a dear friend and a wonderful mother.

Helen was a 75-year member of the First Christian Church, and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Pythian Sisters.

 

As Helen LaFave, she married William Freeze in Mishawaka on Nov. 28, 1922. He died in July 1947. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Woods; and by her brother, Stewart LaFave.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Eilene (Harold) Snyder of North Liberty, Ind., and Carol (Bill) Hoel of Parma, Mich.; three sons, Thomas (Donna) Freeze of Granger, Ind., Vernon (Betty) Freeze of Pottsboro, Texas, and Robert (Harriett) Freeze of Mishawaka; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and by three sisters-in-law, Betty Wechter of Mishawaka, Alta Steinke of Champaign-Urbanna, Ill., and Martha LaFave of Depere, Wis.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the First Christian Church, with Rev. Teal Younce and Rev. Wendell Bishop officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
