NEW CARLISLE - Helen May Freeland, 88, of New Carlisle, IN
died at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in Hamilton
Communities following a lengthy illness. Helen was born March 29,
1919, in St. Joseph County to the late Herbert and Edna (Unruh)
Brumbaugh and was a lifetime area resident.
On November 19, 1938, in South Bend, as
Helen M. Brumbaugh, she married Wayne Milliken, who
preceded her in death in 1965. On December 19, 1981, in South
Bend, she married Bernard D. Freeland who preceded her in death
in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl
Brumbaugh. She is survived by three nieces, Joy Milliken of South
Bend, Kay Milliken of Marysville, CA, and Dot Surma of
Mill Creek, IN; six nephews, Ray Milliken of Centerville, MI,
Dick (Darlene) Lasch, Larry (Donna) Lasch, and Marlin
(June) Fuller all of South Bend, Gene Lasch of Los
Angeles, CA, and Bob (Muriel) Milliken of Mishawaka, IN; and many
great-and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Helen was the co-owner with her husband,
Wayne, of the former Wayne's Tavern Restaurant, currently, Canton
House, and had also been a greeter for Welsheimer Family Funeral
Home. She was also a former member of Sumption Prairie United
Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, January 21 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Cremation will follow at Welsheimer Crematory with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.
