Genevieve D. Freed

Genevieve D. Freed, 78, residing on Southwood Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
She retired from Uniroyal in 1987, following 27 years of service. Mrs. Freed also volunteered at St. Joseph Community Hospital, and was employed in the Dietary Department. Genevieve attended Jimtown School, graduating in 1940. She was a charter member of Osceola Grace Brethren Church, where she served as a Sunday School secretary, treasurer and teacher.
She was born on April 18, 1922, in Nemaha, Iowa, to the late Leslie M. and Mary Catherine (Whitmore) Doll. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Veda Johnson on July 31, 2000. She married William George Freed on April 5, 1947, and they divorced in 1972.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky (Mike) Firth of Crystal Beach, Texas and Cindy (Ron) Buysse of Gunter, Texas; a son, Randall (Paula) Freed of Mishawaka; a granddaughter, Jennifer Freed; eight step-grandchildren, Becky's four step-children, Mark, Ramona, Ross and Rhonda, and Cindy's four step-children, Ron Jr., Jon, Tonya and Windy; 15 step-great-grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew, including a special niece, Bobbie Walsh; and by many friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Freed will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Osceola. Rev. Scott K. Distler will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Osceola Cemetery, Osceola, Ind.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in the funeral home.
