Sister M. Basil Fraser CSC, 84, of
St. Marys Convent, died there at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the
convent after an illness. Sister Fraser was a teacher and taught
elementary grades her entire community life. She was born Jan.
26, 1902 in Tyler, Texas as Mary Frances Fraser. She is survived
by a sister, Bessie McBride of Texas.
Sister Fraser was assigned to St. Patricks
School in South Bend in 1924, and taught there for a year. Her
other assignments in Indiana were in Elkhart and East Chicago.
She served in Baltimore, New York, Ocean Vies, Va., and
Washington DC, and taught for three years at St. Patricks,
Cairo, Ill., before being assigned to the Texas missions in
Marshall, Texas, from 1931 to 1941, and Austin, Texas from 1953
to 1985. She came to Saint Marys in 1985 because of failing
health.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Our
Lady of Loretto Church at Saint Marys and burial will be in
Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call today and until the
services Friday in St. Marys Convent Parlors, where a wake
will be at 7 p.m. today.
