David H. Fox, 77, of Dogwood Court,
South Bend, Ind., formerly of Ann Arbor, Mich., died after an
extended illness on Saturday, Sept. 8, in the Hamilton Grove
Retirement Community, New Carlisle, Ind. He was born on Sept. 27,
1923, in Akron, Ohio, to Homer Eugene and Mabel Irene (Terman)
Fox, who both preceded him in death. After serving in the U.S.
Army 86th Blackhawk Division in World War II, he went on to
graduate from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in
mechanical engineering. He also received an MBA from Eastern
Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Mich. He was employed for many
years at General Motors in Anderson, Ind., and then at the Ford
Motor Company in Michigan until his retirement. He was the
recipient of numerous awards for creative work in automotive
design, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church,
Ann Arbor.
On June 21, 1947, he married Hilda VanHousen,
who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Christine Fiordalis
of South Bend; two sons, Robert E. Fox of Long Beach, Calif., and
Richard D. Fox of Fairview, N.C.; a grandson, David Fiordalis of
South Bend; a brother, Philip F. (Phyllis) Fox of Marion, Ohio;
and by a niece, Sherry (James) Hofacre of Mansfield, Ohio.
Services and interment will be held at a
later date in Bath, Ohio. The family asks that memorial
contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 425 North
Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601; or to a charity of the
donor's choice. The McGann Funeral Homes is in charge of
arrangements.
