October 30, 1909 – December 23, 1998

Gilbert H. Fortin, 89, of Regency Place Nursing Home, formerly of 1522 Rosemary Lane, South Bend IN, died of natural causes on Wednesday, December 23, in the nursing home.

He was born on October 30, 1909, in Newton County IN.  He was raised on a farm four and a half miles east of Morocco IN.

On August 17, 1932, he married Crystal Wheeler.  Crystal passed away on July 13, 1986, after 54 years of marriage.

Mr. Fortin retired from Bendix Aviation Corporation.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann (Richard) Burks of Granger IN, and Sandra May (Jerry) Wiseman of Schaumburg IL; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and by two sisters, Gerry Heed and Evelyn Wagner both of South Bend.

Services will be at 11am on Tuesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call from 3 to 7pm today in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in South Bend where Mr. Fortin was a member since 1926.
