WALKERTON - James C. Ford, 73,
residing on West 1st Road, Walkerton, Ind., passed away after a
brief illness at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at his home. Mr.
Ford was the former owner and operator of Ford's Dairy Queen for
21 years, located on Ireland Road and U.S. 31. He was also the
former owner of the Copper Key Restaurant in South Bend, and
co-owner of Fortol's Restaurant on Ireland Road and Main Street
in South Bend. Mr. Ford was born on Nov. 30, 1924, in South Bend,
Ind., and lived most of his life in South Bend and Lakeville,
Ind., living in Walkerton for the past five years. He was a
longtime and active member of the County Line Brethren Church,
and was a World War II United States Navy veteran.
On July 21, 1943, in Lakeville, at the
County Line Brethren Church, he married Naomi J. Warren,
who survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Belinda S. Murray
of Kalamazoo, Mich., Nancy H. Smith of Kalamazoo, Carol E.
(David S.) Bainbridge of South Bend and Martha M. (Robert
J.) Knepper of Walkerton; a son, James W. (Denise J.) Ford
of Walkerton; six grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Claggett,
Jonathan R. Pickerl, Danielle E. Ford, Alicia D. Ford, Sam
Knepper and James R. Ford; and by a sister, Mary Alice Birk
of Mishawaka, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, Aug. 28, at the County Line Brethren Church, 69988 U.S.
31 South, Lakeville, IN 46536. Rev. Carl Phillips, pastor of the
church, will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow
in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8
p.m. today at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, and one hour
prior to services in the church on Friday. Contributions in
memory of James C. Ford may be made to the church.
