Valentino "Val" Fonseca,
74, of West 15th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an
illness at 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, in his home. Mr.
Fonseca was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in Mishawaka, as the son of the
late Antonio and Maria Fonseca. He was also preceded in death by
a sister, Nancy Bishop.
On April 7, 1951, in St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Donna Rankin. He
is survived by his wife, Donna of 49 years; a daughter, Candy
(Pat) Gnivecki of Mishawaka; and a son, Todd (Joanne)
Fonseca of Andover, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kevin Gnivecki,
Kelly L. Gnivecki and Aaron Fonseca; two sisters, Christina Marques
and Lucille Amaral, both of Portugal; and by two brothers,
Charles Fonseca of Albuquerque, N.M., and Manuel Fonseca of South
Bend. Mr. Fonseca retired in 1980 from Dodge in Mishawaka after
18 years. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church,
Mishawaka. Mr. Fonseca was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and
a member of the Knights of Columbus #1878, 4th Degree.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
on Friday, April 28, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street,
Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, in
St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer
officiating. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery
Mausoleum, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to St
Bavo's Catholic Church Project 2000, 511 W. 7th Street,
Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
