SOUTH BEND - Richard R. Foltz, 93, was born on September 18,
1916, in South Bend. He passed away on June 29, 2010, in Pueblo,
CO. Richard had lived for many years in River Park at 916 S. 25th
Street. Richard had lived with his daughter, Jennie, in Pueblo
West, CO, for the past four years. He married Gail A. Cormican on
December 23, 1938. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in
2008, and she left him on January 18, 2009. They had both lived
with their daughter since 2001 because of declining health.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennie (Richard) Hess of
Pueblo West, CO. He is also survived by his son, David (Kathy)
Foltz of Mesa, AZ. His son, Norman Foltz, preceded him in death
in 1973. Richard is also survived by five grandchildren, Joyce
(Robert) Estes, Richard (Sherry) Hess Jr., Laura Klein, April
Foltz and Allen (Angie) Foltz. He is also survived by 15
great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. A
great-great-great-granddaughter is due soon. Richard worked as a
machinist most of his life in Indiana and Colorado, and retired
from Honeywell. He also worked as a machinist at home, Dick's
Machine Shop, where he did work for some of his old bosses and
friends after he retired. His hobbies were many, the favorites
being photography and astronomy, for which he built from scratch
a 6- inch refractive telescope. He had some of his pictures from
it of a moon eclipse printed in an old Sky & Telescope
magazine. He was also a member of an astronomy club in South
Bend. Last, but not least, he loved to fly, and he carried his
pilots license with him to the end. He will be missed by all of
his family and friends. There will be no service, as his wish was
cremation only. He said he lived simple and he wanted to go
simple also.
