Joan D. Flury, 61, of Apple Road,
Osceola, Ind., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 18, in
her residence. Joan was born on July 29, 1936, in Knox County,
Ind., to Henry and Vivian (Farmer) Delle Ave, both
of whom preceded her in death.
On April 6, 1968, Joan married Fred J. Flury
in Mishawaka, Ind. He survives. She is also survived by a
daughter, Dawn Flury-Krause of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters,
Joyce Rodrick of Bicknell, Ind., and Kay Scarff of
Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Henry Delle Ave of Ragsdale, Ind.; and by
her mother-in-law, Sara Jane Flury of Mishawaka. Joan retired in
1983 from School City of Mishawaka, where she last taught at John
Young Middle School as a home economics teacher. Prior to her
retirement, her 20-year teaching career began at Penn High School
and then Mishawaka High School before her last position at Young.
She was an alumnus of Indiana University and also attended
Vincennes University.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in
the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Services will be
held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, in the funeral home where
friends may also visit one hour prior to services. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society, Indiana State Chapter, 615 N. Alabama
Street, Room 318, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
