WALKERTON - Shirley A. Flaugher, 70,
700 Indiana St., Walkerton, Ind., died following an extended
illness on Tuesday, March 31, at 4:27 p.m. Shirley, a resident of
St. Joseph County since 1970, died in Miller's Merry Manor,
Walkerton, Ind. Born in Plymouth on Oct. 22, 1927, she was the
daughter of the late Marie L. Mattern Bollinger and Daniel
H. Bollinger, Sr. She graduated from Plymouth High School in
1945, and was a graduate of the Cleveland Nursing Institute.
She was formerly married to William L.
Flaugher, Sr., of Grovertown, Ind. An L.P.N., she worked for 20
years in the Walkerton Medical Clinic. She also was a health care
professional with the Holy Cross Care Services, South Bend, Ind.
She retired in 1991. Shirley enjoyed reading and working
crossword puzzles. Adept with her hands, she crocheted many
beautiful pieces that will be family heirlooms. She was a past
president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 189, Walkerton,
and served as a former District Officer for the organization. She
was a member of the Walkerton First United Methodist Church.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her son,
two daughters and their spouses. They are: William L. and Donna
Flaugher, Jr., of Walkerton; Cynthia A. and Victor Chiszar
of South Bend; and Linda E. and Les Coburn of Knox. One grandson,
six granddaughters and two stepgrandchildren also survive, as
does a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Sam Downey of
Bryan, Texas. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and
two brothers, Daniel H. Bollinger, Jr., and William Bollinger.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 4 to 8 p.m.
today. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the
funeral service which will be held on Friday, April 3, at 11 a.m.
in the funeral home. The Rev. D.O. VanDyne, pastor of the First
Baptist Church, Walkerton, will conduct the service. Burial will
take place in the Donaldson Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Shirley's
name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
