Philip E. Fisher, M.D., 37, of
Granger, Ind., passed away following an extended illness at 10:50
a.m. on Thurs-day, April 27, in his residence. Dr. Fisher was
born on Oct. 13, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio. He was a former family
practice physician at the South Bend Clinic. He was preceded in
death by his father, Edward E. Fisher.
On Aug. 18, 1984, in the Basilica of the
Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Ind., he married Alisa M. Hardiman,
who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary Adelaide
Fisher and Katheryn Bridget Fisher, both at home; his mother,
Phyllis M. Fisher of Galloway, Ohio; a sister, Mary Fisher Gillespie
of Centerville, Ohio; and two brothers, William E. Fisher, M.D.,
of Houston, Texas, and Edward W. Fisher of Bradenton, Fla.
Dr. Fisher was a member of St. Pius X Parish
and Knights of Columbus Council #4263. He was a valedictorian as
a 1980 graduate of Bishop Ready High School in Columbus, a high
honors and Joyce Scholar 1984 graduate of the University of Notre
Dame, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical
School in 1988. A resident with St. Joseph's Regional Medical
Center in South Bend, he worked as a family physician in South
Bend until 1996. Dr. Fisher served as a volunteer for the
Department of Medical Education at St. Joseph's Regional Medical
Center and for the Habitat for Humanity.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, in the Basilica of the Sacred
Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery,
Notre Dame. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish
Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be
made to the University of Notre Dame Scholarship Fund or to
Hospice of St. Joseph County.
