SOUTH BEND - Helen D. Filchak, 81, of Meridian-Cardinal Nursing Center, formerly of 3105 S. Michigan St., died at 8:15 p.m. Friday in the nursing center. Mrs. Filchak retired from 1st Source Bank as a teller. She was born Feb. 10, 1914, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On June 20, 1936, in South Bend, as Helen Skubiszewski, she married George Filchak. He died in 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Moynihan of Oneonta, N.Y.; a son, George of Buchanan; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Marie Jackowiak, Sophie Wrobel and Clara Risley, all of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
