Thomas F. Fifer, 78, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:33 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2005, in Memorial Hospital. Thomas was born on June 20, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Kenneth and Catherine (Costigan) Fifer. He retired from the O'Brien Paint Corporation, where he was employed for 43 years.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret C. (Nowak) Fifer; one daughter, Donna M. (Brent) Hemmerlein of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Karen Hemmerlein and Jeff (Jamie) Hemmerlein; one brother, John "Kenney" Fifer of Mishawaka, IN; and by many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his sister, Catherine Floran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2005, in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thomas was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and was a World War II Army Veteran.
