Burton James Fields, 52, of South Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born on Feb. 16, 1949, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late Holland and Ola Mae (James) Fields, and had lived in Indiana since 1989, coming from Illinois.
On June 12, 1976, in St. Louis, Mo., he married Julie Cox, who survives. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara Guin of Truman, Ark.; and three brothers, Elbon Fields, Richard Fields and Winford Fields, all of Missouri. Mr. Fields was a truck driver, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Funeral services for Burton James Fields will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Don Francis will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in the Palmer Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30, in Meinschein Funeral Home, Litchfield, Ill. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, Mount Olive, Ill. Contributions in memory of Burton James Fields may be made to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
