Mrs. Ludwig S. Fickenscher, aged 73, of 121 South St. Peter
street, an active member of several clubs and organizations in
South Bend, including the League of Women Voters and the
Y.W.C.A., died in her home at 6:30 oclock this morning. She
had been in ill health several months but a more recent illness
with but a more recent illness with pneumonia caused her death.
She was born in South Bend Dec. 20, 1863 and spent her
entire life here. She was married in 1900 in South Bend to Ludwig
S. Fickenscher, who survives her. She leaves also a son, George
B. Fickenscher, and a brother, James Brown, both of this city.

FICKENSCHER SERVICES SET
Funeral Tuesday for Long-Time Leader of Women
Funeral services for Mrs. Ludwig S. Fickenscher , aged 73,
of 121 South St. Peter street, who died at 6:30 oclock
Saturday morning in her home, will be held at 10 oclock
Tuesday morning in St. James Episcopal church, Rev. Lawrence C.
Ferguson, the rector, officiating. Burial will be in Mount
Pleasant cemetery. The body will lie in the Orvis chapel.
Mrs. Fickenscher was a life member of the Progress club, a
member of Schuyler Colfax chapter, Daughters of the American
Revolution; of the League of Women Voters, Board of Childrens
Guardians, Epworth hospital board, the St. James guild and the
Associated Charities. As a member of the playground recreation
committee she was instrumental in establishing the first
playground for children in South Bend. She was also active in the
first Parent-Teacher associations in this city.
Mrs. Fickenscher acted as chairman of the conservation
department of the Indiana Federation of Womens clubs; was
chairman of the amusement censorship committee under former Mayor
Fred W. Keller and was active in garden and flower shows.
Mrs. Fickenscher was a graduate of Valparaiso university,
Valparaiso, Ind., with the class of 1892. Her death followed ill
health of several months, with pneumonia as the immediate cause.
