SOUTH BEND - Robert died peacefully in his sleep at the Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, in the early morning
hours of October 20, 2007. He was born in South Bend to Henry and
Dorothy (MacDonald) Ferro on May 24, 1925. Robert was a
U.S. Navy veteran during WWII. He proudly served as a radio man
as a member of the Navy Air Crew in the Pacific Theatre. He was
honorably discharged and awarded several medals. He retired from
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in 1988.
On June 15, 1963, he married Nilene (Fergison)
Davis. Nilene Ferro survives along with three daughters,
Debra (Larry) Szul of Osceola, Gayla Northan and
Tina Ritter, both of South Bend. He is also survived by
three stepchildren, Larry (Suzanne) Davis, Michael (Connie)
Davis, both of Granger, and Terri (Michael) Linsky of
Osceola; a sister, Barbara Washer of Sylvania, Ohio; and
by a brother, Tom (Carolyn) Ferro of Los Alamitos, CA. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Leach, but is
survived by her husband, Richard Leach of South Bend. He leaves
many grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation or
services. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer
Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
