SOUTH BEND - Philip H. Ferro, 72, of Orlando, FL, formerly of
South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, August 8,
2010, in his home. Phil was born on January 21, 1938, in Elkhart,
IN, to Ernest and Florence (Kretschmer) Ferro. He had been
employed as an assistant vice president for Hook's Drugs. He was
also employed as a pharmacist at various drug stores. On
September 1, 1962, in South Bend, IN, he married Sandra Douglas,
who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Lisa Heck
of Martinsville, IN, Kristine Manes of Indianapolis, IN, Phil
Ferro of Orlando, FL, Mark Ferro of Gaithersburg, MD; and his
grandchildren, Daniel Cervantes, Stephen Heck, Danielle Heck,
Katie Heck, Nickolas Manes, Nathan Manes and Sophia Ferro; and
great-grandson, Craigery Stout. He is also survived by his
brothers and sisters, Bernard Ferro, Barbara Marriott, Dr.
Gregory Ferro, Rosie Cingel and Theresa Ferro. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Ernest and Florence Ferro, and by a
brother, Paul Ferro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:00 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, in St. Stanislaus Church.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4
to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix
Drive, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Philip was a
member of Holy Redeemer parish in Kissimmee, FL. He was a
graduate of St. Joseph High School in South Bend, IN, and Purdue
University in Lafayette, IN. He was a member of the Phi Kappa
Theta fraternity at Purdue University. He was an Army captain in
the Chemical Corps. He enjoyed being with his family and friends,
watching Notre Dame football games, and traveling to Las Vegas.
