Walter L. Ferris (March 10, 1919 -- Nov. 12,
2003)
Walter L. Ferris, 84, of Eastmont
Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 6:47 p.m. in Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness. Mr. Ferris was born March 10, 1919 in
South Bend to the late George E. and Mattie (Simpson)
Ferris Sr., and was a lifetime area resident.
On May 7, 1944 in South Bend he married
Lilliam Newman, who preceded him in death July 29, 1986.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.
He is survived by a son, Brian E. Ferris of South Bend; and a
brother, Willis R. Ferris of Mishawaka.
Mr. Ferris retired as a truck driver
from Preston Trucking in 1982 after over 34 years of service. He
was a member of Teamsters Local #364 in South Bend, the One
Million and Two Million Mile Club with Preston Trucking and
received awards from the American Trucking Association and
Preston Trucking for 27 years of safe driving. He was also a
former member and Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist
Church in South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N.
William St., with Rev. Daniel Berger of First United Methodist
Church officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 16, in the funeral
home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the
donor's choice.
