SOUTH BEND - Mabel L. Fenske, 89, of South Bend, passed
away at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor
Nursing Home, New Carlisle, IN. She was born February 5, 1919, in
North Liberty, IN, the daughter of Ernest A. and Dorothy I. (Howell)
Floran, and had lived in this area all of her life.
On November 6, 1937, in South Bend, IN, she
was united in marriage to Frank J. Fenske. They enjoyed 67 years
of marriage until his passing on October 31, 2004. She was also
preceded in death by parents, Ernest Arthur and Helen Floran,
Dorothy and Paul Prescott; a son-in-law, Jack Newton
in 1983; and a brother, James Adam Floran. Mrs. Fenske retired in
1978 as a teller with First Source Bank, South Bend, following 20
years of service. She then worked at Christian Center Church for
10 years. She was a 1937 graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High
School. She was a member of Christ Chapel, Riley Lunch Bunch, and
the Keenagers at Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. She is
survived by her four daughters, Sandra K. Newton of
Granger, Sharyl J. (Rick) Holm of North Liberty, Bonnie J.
(Thomas) Lehman of South Bend and Vicki J. (David) Treat
of Algonquin, IL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jeff
(Janice) Newton, Kim (Wes) Newton Evard, Christi Holm,
Cindi (Will) Holm Pedersen, Michelle (Chris) Holm Feller,
Kelly (John) Holm Shaida, Alex Lehman and Katie Lehman;
six great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jessica Newton, Reilly and
Nolan Evard, Paul Pedersen and Padrick Feller.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Richard Siri will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
