Sister M. Hilary Farrelly CSC, 85, of Saint
Marys Convent died at 2:30 p.m. at the residence after a
long illness. Born Genevieve Farrelly on Aug. 30, 1903, in
Chicago, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy
Cross, St. Marys on July 5, 1924, coming from Chicago.
Received as a novice Jan. 6, 1925, she made her profession of
vows Jan. 6, 1927. She graduated from St. Marys College in
1924, receiving a bachelor of science degree in nutrition; in
1938 she received her diploma in nursing from Mount Carmel
Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; and her master of science degree in
Nursing Education from the Catholic University of America in
1945.
She was assigned to Mount Carmel Hospital in
1931, where she served as dietitian from 1931 to 1936; after
completing her nursing education, she served as director of the
School of Nursing from 1936 to 1946, when she was assigned as
administrator of Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, until 1961.
Elected as first General Councilor from 1961 to 1967, she then
served as administrator of Saint Alphonsus Hospital, Boise,
Idaho, for one year. In 1968 she returned to Saint Marys
Convent and served as Religious Superior from 1968 to 1985.
Returning to Mount Carmel Hospital, she served in the Pastoral
Care Department until 1980, when due to failing health, she
returned to reside in St. Marys Convent.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Our
Lady of Loretto Church, with internment in Our Lady of Peace
Cemetery, St. Marys. Friends may call today and Monday in
St. Marys Convent Parlors, where a wake service will be at
7 p.m. today.
