Shirley (Banks) Faller, 79, beloved wife of John A. Faller, Lincolnshire Woods, Ohio, died on Tuesday, Aug. 12, after a valiant fight against cancer. A woman of extraordinary vitality and warmth, she would have celebrated her 80th birthday in September. Born on Sept. 26, 1917, in Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Faller grew up in South Bend, Ind., and in 1935 was chosen they city's Charm Circle to preside over the Depression-era fete celebrating the reorganization of the Studebaker Corporation. She later moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio, attended the University of Toledo and in 1938, embarked upon her chosen career as a homemaker. She was also a longtime volunteer for the Toledo Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents. Parley and Helen Banks; and sisters, Dorothy ( the late Norman) Shambleau of Hay Springs, Neb., and Bernice (Donald) Therkelsen of Minneapolis, Minn. She is survived by her husband, John A. Faller, retried vice President of purchasing and traffic at the Libbey-Owens-Ford; daughter, Sharon Faller Simmons ( Ron Coffman); sisters, Eleanor ( the late Robert) Sweitzer of Mishawaka, Ind., and Beverly (the late Edward) Simrall of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Parley (Mary Ann) Banks of Overland Park, Kan., and Philip (Caroline) Banks of Lake Forest, Ill.; and by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Bennett-Emmert Funeral Home, 3434 Secor Road, Toledo, Ohio, (419-535-7726) where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Entombment at Toledo Memorial Park. The family request that any tributes by made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
