SOUTH BEND - Bethya Mae Fahler, 86,
passed away Saturday, March 3, in Regency Place of South Bend.
She was born July 23, 1920, in LaCrosse, IN, to John Joseph and
Gladys Mae (Dollever) Krege Jr. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Dale Elkins, and
a brother, Lloyd Paul Krege.
On November 10, 1945, in South Bend, she
married the love of her life, Merle Clark Fahler, who died July
10, 2005. She is survived by her loving children: daughters,
Nanette and Nigel Collins of Joliet, IL, and Suzette and
Jeff Dine of Indianapolis; and sons, H. Krege and Phyllis
Fahler of South Bend, and C. Keith and Susan Fahler of North
liberty, IN; four grandchildren, Robert Keith Fahler (Chleste),
Matthew David Fahler (Robyn), Robert Jeffery Dine, Tami Lynn
Fahler-Hughes (James); a step-grandchild, Arthur L. Hoyt
III (Gail); and five great- grandchildren. Bea graduated from
LaPorte High School and the South Bend Business College. She
worked for the First Bank and Trust Co. and later for the Harold
Lomax C.P.A. firm. She also helped her husband at Singer General
Tire Co. She belonged to Chapter 479 Order of Eastern Star and
was active in the Shrine Auxiliary and helped with their blood
drives here in South bend, and was a member of The Royal
Neighbors of America. She loved ballroom dancing and sewing, the
Big Bands of her era and Lawrence Welk.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, March 7, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North,
17033 Cleveland Road, with Pastor Edgar Erskin officiating, and
burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with
the family from 10 a.m. until services on Wednesday. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled
Children or to the American Cancer Society.
