SOUTH BEND - Roderick "Rod" Charles Evans, 59, of West
Lafayette, formerly of South Bend, died Sunday, April 18, 2010,
in Sr. Elizabeth East Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1951, to
Helene Desich Evans-Helling of Granger and the late Richard
Evans. He married Jill Shanks on June 9, 1973, in West Lafayette,
and she survives. In 1969 he graduated from Clay High School in
South Bend and he later attended Purdue University. He was the
youngest person to receive the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of
13. He had been a commercial real estate broker with F.C. Tucker
Real Estate since 1997. Rod was a lifetime member of F.C.
Tucker's President's Club (recognition for top producers across
Indiana). He earned the mega-deal award for 1999 - 2001, and was
also awarded the F.C. Tucker Commercial Associate of the year in
1999 - 2002. He was previously a self-employed potter for 20
years. He was a current board member of NICHES Land Trust, and
former board member of The CHAPS. He was an avid runner, and ran
26 marathons in two years. He enjoyed outdoor activities, nature,
and was a lover of animals, especially his dogs. Surviving with
his mother is one brother, Ron Evans (wife: Kim) of Granger. Also
surviving are one niece, Molly Evans, and three nephews, Mitch,
Jason, and Brian Evans. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Rick Evans. Memorial visitation is today from 5 until 8 p.m. in
the Hippensteel Funeral Home; services there on Thursday at 2:00
PM., Fr. Tom Poulsen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to NICHES Land Trust and / or Almost Home Humane
